Melissa Etheridge is an American rock singer-songwriter and passionate activist. Melissa"s raspy, smoky vocals and confessional lyrics make her a musical force to be reckoned with. Melissa released her self-titled debut album in 1985, which became an underground hit, and her single "Bring Me Some Water" landed her a Grammy nomination. Over the next two decades, Melissa released 13 studio albums and a greatest hits album. Her most recent work, "4th Street Feeling," was completed in June of 2012 and is to be released later this year. In addition to her personal and autobiographic lyrics, Melissa works as an activist and volunteer for many important causes. She is frequently seen supporting gay rights, environmental issues, breast cancer awareness, and many others. Melissa has proved that she is a powerful, confident woman whose powerful music performances truly touch the audience.

Melissa Etheridge has won two Grammy Awards - one in 1993 for her song "Ain't It Heavy" and another in 1995 for "Come to my Window," both in the Best Rock Vocal Performance. She also won an Academy Award in 2007 in the Best Original Song category for her song "I Need to Wake Up" which was featured in the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Melissa has received many other recognitions during her career, including a start on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a Gibson Guitar Award for Best Female Rock Guitarist.
