Downtown Windsor Farmers Market hosts 2nd Annual CodeGreen Expo August 16Book A Room
The Downtown Windsor Farmers Market (DWFM) is teaming up with Caesars Windsor to create a greener tomorrow by hosting the casino’s 2nd Annual CodeGreen Expo on Saturday, August 16 from 8 am to 1 pm, at Charles Clark Square. The goal of the event is to promote sustainability, energy conservation and create awareness about waste diversion.
Guests of all ages are invited to this FREE event to enjoy local vendors, information booths, exciting giveaways, a cooking demonstration by Caesars culinary team using local produce and family-friendly activities - all alongside the Market’s popular, weekly food and retail vendors.
Recycling Makes Cents will also be on site to collect E-Waste such as old computers and electronics, as well as used tires. Sunshine Drugs will provide a secure drop off for expired and unused over-the-counter and prescription drugs for safe disposal, diverting them from landfills that could pollute waterways or lead to accidental poisonings.
Kelly Wolfe-Gregoire, Vice President of Human Resources at Caesars Windsor, said, “Partnering with the popular Downtown Windsor Farmers Market is the perfect setting to promote our common goal of creating a sustainable future through environmental stewardship.” In May, the DWFM was among five hyper local non-profit organizations to receive a portion of a $130,000 donation as part of the casino’s 20 Year Anniversary Celebration.
Steve Green, DWFM General Manager, is excited about this new and growing partnership with Caesars. He said, “Not only does this afford an increase in diversity of vendors for the Expo, it exposes participants to the bounty of our local farmers, food producers, environmentally-friendly natural and organic vendors. Cooperation and collaboration with Caesars Windsor is greatly appreciated."
Since the beginning, Caesars Windsor has focused on green initiatives that reduce waste and conserve energy use. The Caesars Entertainment Corporation’s CodeGreen program is an organization-wide strategy to identify, monitor, measure, manage and reduce material impacts on the environment. Locally, in 2013, the Caesars Windsor hotel was 4-Green Key certified from the world-recognized Green Key Eco-Rating program for all of the green efforts. In 2011 alone, the property had successfully diverted over 3080 tons of waste from landfills through cardboard, used batteries and various metals recycling; replaced the majority of their lighting fixtures to energy efficient LED and continued to look for new ways to decrease waste and improve recycling efforts. Annually, dozens of Caesars Windsor employees participate in the Little River Clean Up and Essex Region Conservation Authority’s Earth Day tree planting.
