Caesars Windsor surprises Aretha Franklin with a $5,000 donation to Flint Water Crisis

For immediate release: February 12, 2016

Windsor, ON – Today, Caesars Windsor surprised music legend, “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, with a $5,000 US donation made in the singer’s name to the Salvation Army of Genesee County Flint Water Crisis fund and in honour of her upcoming performance at The Colosseum on February 13. The gift will help purchase bottled water; provide filters and relief services to help those affected.

The Flint crisis has made global news with thousands of its residents left without drinking water after finding toxic levels of lead in the city’s water supplies. Incredible international response has resulted in dozens of celebrities and every day citizens donating hundreds of thousands in cash and water to the township to help those in need.

In response, Franklin said, “I think it’s great that Caesars Windsor is showing such sensitivity to the community of Flint.”

This announcement comes on the heels of Franklin’s own generous donation of hotel rooms, food and bottled water to Flint residents affected by the water crisis. After learning of her kindness and with her impending performance later this week, Caesars Windsor wanted to honour her compassion with an additional cash donation in her name.

Kevin Laforet, Caesars Regional President, said, “We are proud to host the legendary Ms. Franklin at The Colosseum this month and are pleased to honour her Detroit legacy in this way while helping those in need in the Flint area.” In addition to the cash donation, Caesars Windsor donated over 6,700 bottles of water in collaboration with the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association’s efforts to donate water and cash to Flint area fire departments this past Wednesday, February 8.
