For immediate release: September 27, 2017
Windsor, ON – The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation’s Dignity Robe program will receive a boost from Caesars Windsor Cares’ 5th annual Concert for a Cure campaign, allowing even more cancer patients to receive the locally handmade garments. Funds will go towards the purchase of materials needed by volunteer tailors, seamstresses and crafters to create the robes.
“The Dignity Robe program, founded through a group of local volunteers, is designed to give women comfort and control, both emotionally and physically, while going through radiation therapy for breast and lung cancer,” said Houida Kassem, Executive Director of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation. “Our cancer patients appreciate these personal gifts of caring as they face daunting and exhausting courses of radiation treatments.”
Differing from regular hospital gowns, Dignity Robes are bright, colourful and feature openings in the front and sides with soft Velcro closures, allowing women the control to be partially covered during treatment.
“Being diagnosed with cancer is a traumatic experience to begin with and having a dignity robe gave me great comfort during such a difficult time,” said Janet Fleming. “It’s also such an emotional time and so thank goodness the robes had pockets too as I now had somewhere to keep my Kleenex! In all seriousness, the Dignity Robes were a blessing to me and I’m sure to many other patients as well.”
Since 2013, Concerts For A Cure has donated $1 from every October and November Colosseum ticket sale to local non-profit cancer-related organizations whose primary goal is to raise awareness or provide support to individuals undergoing treatment. The campaign has raised over $100,000 for Windsor Cancer Research Group, Canadian Cancer Society Windsor-Essex, Hospice of Windsor-Essex, Pajama Angels, Transition to Betterness and In Honour of the Ones We Love. In addition to this year’s donation, Caesars Windsor employee HEROs will join the team of volunteers sewing robes for the program.
“Caesars Windsor Cares is proud to continue our support of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation and all the incredible work they do to help those undergoing cancer treatment,” said Mary Riley, Vice President of Marketing, Caesars Windsor. “We are pleased to celebrate our fifth Concerts For A Cure campaign and provide funds directly to local organizations for a disease that impacts so many in our community.”
The Concert for A Cure Series 2017 includes: deadmau5 (Oct 6), Steely Dan (Oct 20), George Lopez (Oct 21), Dallas Smith wsg Lauren Alaina (Oct 26), Theresa Caputo (Nov 3), A Night with Janis Joplin (Nov 4), Styx (Nov 12) and Dustin Lynch (Nov 19). About The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation
The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation was founded in 1996 by a group of volunteers, some of them former cancer patients. Our first goal was to raise funds to equip and enhance the planned new Windsor Regional Cancer Centre and thus ensure that it was one of the finest in the province. With that accomplished, our Foundation became the official fund raising arm of the Cancer Centre, fulfilling the requests of the Cancer Program for state-of-the-art equipment and patient amenities.
About Caesars Windsor Cares Since the beginning, Caesars Windsor Cares has proudly supported local organizations that work toward building a better future for our community and its citizens. From corporate giving, volunteering and fundraising, we work to enrich our community by partnering and contributing to local non-for-profits in long-lasting, sustainable ways. Since 1994, Caesars Windsor Cares has donated over $13 million in funding and in-kind resources to support non-profits in their missions to positively impact the greatest number possible, in the Health and Wellness, Environment Sustainability and Conservation, Community Enrichment and Seniors.
