Senior Appreciation Month: Caesars shares smiles with seniors throughout May

by Margaret George

May marks Senior Appreciation Month for Caesars Entertainment, a time for our employees across the nation to inspire healthy aging in their communities through exclusive experiences that enhance the quality of life for seniors. These uniquely Caesars experiences shake a routine day up and revitalize seniors with appreciation and value.

The Caesars Foundation Will to Do Wonders has contributed $25 million to senior-related causes in the 13 years since its inception in 2002. In 2013, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) bestowed its Distinguished Achievement Award on CEO Gary Loveman for senior advocacy through Caesars’ philanthropy, volunteerism and corporate diversity.

We’ve already had a plethora of activities lined up to spread awareness about important issues facing the senior population, in addition to simply spreading smiles and showing our older neighbors that they’re valued. From reaching new heights 550 feet in the air, to having their homes revamped, to enjoying a hot meal with friends and furry pals, we hope they feel the love!

We’re proud to work closely with our longstanding partners, Metro Meals on Wheels (MMOW) and Second Wind Dreams (SWD) to maximize our impact during Senior Appreciation Month. Since 2002, the Caesars Foundation has partnered with Metro Meals on Wheels to actively fight against senior hunger. In this time the Caesars Foundation has contributed over $5 million to provide 53 new meal delivery vehicles in 18 states and, this month, MMOW in Atlantic City, Las Vegas and San Diego will receive meal-delivery trucks. Get involved and join your fellow Las Vegas HERO and MMOW to collect food donations at the van donation event on May 21st at Catholic Charities on 531 North 30th Street. Makes sure to bring some food for their beloved pets, they love treats too!

Our collaboration with Second Wind Dreams aims to change the perception of aging though the fulfillment of dreams and enhancing the quality of life for those living in senior care communities. The Foundation’s long time support of these life enhancing programs and activities has totaled $1.1 million.

Caesars organized a SWD-inspired event on May 8th to kick off the festivities, during which 120 seniors rolled 550 feet high at the LINQ’s High Roller where they enjoyed complimentary drinks up in the sky lounge.

Events such as High Roller Day provide those living in elder care communities with the opportunity to experience something amazing in their lives reminding them to never stop dreaming and hoping,” said Amy Safran, Director of Community Relations for Second Wind Dreams. In order to change the perception of aging, the impact of a dream (or dream event) needs to spread from the elder to everyone involved in making the dream come true.”

“It was the best experienced I’ve had, thank you” expressed SWD senior Kathy Cahffin about her day at the LINQ on the High Roller.

Still to come are bingo and goodie bag days in New Orleans, house and courtyard repairs and beatification projects in Las Vegas, a cooking contest and food donation drive in Atlantic City, and a Mugs of Love event to fill cups with goodies in Baltimore. These fun yet important initiatives are being held all month long and are still in need of volunteers!

“These activities are also important to our Caesar’s Community as it gives us a chance to give back to our community, get to know some amazing elders, show appreciation to these elders as well as work with other employees in great team building activities,” said HERO Lead Robin Matos.

We’re encouraging our employees to make a senior appreciation event a priority this month and to be the reason for someone’s smile. Contact your HERO chair to learn how you can get involved!
