At Caesars, we call our efforts corporate citizenship because we are aware of our role as members of the communities we operate in. We believe that as citizens we are responsible for doing our part and taking an active role to make the world a better place, and we are rooted in the places we call home and work to support the vibrant communities for the long term. With more than fifty casinos and resorts around the world, the communities that we have become a part of continue to experience the positive impact our company, our people make. It’s a way of engaging, developing ourselves as individuals, understanding the needs of others and also, having fun – and employee volunteerism is the cornerstone of our community involvement.
Caesars Windsor raised $4,400 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in an event that brought together our HERO and CodeGreen programs.
Our employee-based community volunteers are called Caesars “HEROs.” These individuals publicly and passionately live our Code of Commitment – our company’s ethos – and employees contribute time and other skills by providing organizational and financial resources. According to the latest corporate citizenship report, in 2013 alone, HERO volunteers contributed more than 164,000 hours to communities and the environment through individual and HERO-sponsored volunteer efforts. Employees have partnered with organizations such as Clean the World, American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Rebuilding Together and Ya Es Hora, a national civic campaign that works to naturalize legal permanent residents.
Here are some 2013 highlights from our HERO Leaders:
- Dana Jones, employee relations specialist at Horseshoe Southern Indiana: “Our volunteers hosted the 2nd annual Honor Flight Golf Scramble at the casino’s golf course for team members, visitors, and guests. Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter is a Kentucky-based non-profit that honors America’s veterans. 144 golfers participated in the scramble and 40 volunteers worked to make the event a success. We raised $11,000 for Honor Flight to fly 22 veterans to Washington, D.C
- Tami Dials, administrative assistant at Harrah’s Laughlin: “We held a Back to School Event by inviting and hosting over 20 local vendors and organization centered on children’s education, activities, and wellness. We purchased backpacks with school supplies and supplied lunch, crafts, a photo booth and local entertainment. 125 kids attended the event and were able to receive many valuable benefits in time for the start of the new school year.”
We have every reason to be proud of the work of our HEROs, and in 2014, there were many more powerful stories to share. We want our HEROs to be recognized for their work and commitment, not only companywide but in their communities as well. To do this, each quarter we host a company-wide competition to recognize these “HERO STARS”. Employees nominate co-workers who have made a significant impact on their local community and workplace. Last month, we wrapped up nominations for 2014 and it was truly humbling to read the stories of Caesars employees who donate countless hours to a variety of charitable causes and their communities. Today, our CEO Mr. Gary Loveman will announce the four finalists… our 2014 HERO STARS winners!
