My husband and I have started an annual tradition of going to Cherokee for a couples' weekend. I look forward to our annual trip without kids! The rooms, casino floor, and bathrooms are very clean, employees are helpful and friendly, the pool is open late and there is a great pool bar. There is nothing like laying out at the pool with one of their delicious margaritas. I also recommend the chicken tacos. There are multiple good options for eating and even Ruths Chris is casual dress (official or not official, not sure, but we felt comfortable in jeans). The spa facility is great with warming chairs and a whirlpool. The massages were a bit expensive but as part of my vacation, I don't mind. I liked that I could book my service with my phone. A small creek runs through the casino property. I have seen people fishing there with tons of caught fish. We have not done this yet, but my husband is dying to fish here as he loves fishing and hates going to the pool. You have to get a separate Cherokee fishing license. There are little balconies on the side of the casino where you can sit and enjoy a Starbucks coffee while listening to the rushing water. The only downsides are a very small nonsmoking area in the casino. I found my choice of machines in the nonsmoking area to be limited. In general the casino is very smoky smelling (my hair and clothes smell like smoke at the end of the evening). The rest of the hotel and restaurants were fine as far as smoke smell goes. The music at the pool on Saturday afternoons is too loud. Luckily, the rest of the time at the pool is very relaxing with soft music in the background. Many of the pool chairs are taken. I had to wait for a chair. Next time I am going to see how much the reserved chairs cost or get one of the cabanas. One tip - get the rewards card and then book your hotel room. The prices are MUCH cheaper (like $200 cheaper per night). Also, if you are active military or a veteran, you can show your military ID or DD214 and get the platinum rewards card. This gives better discounts throughout stores and some restaurants in the casino. There are perks for parking (I think it was free parking?). We only go to the casino once a year and we are NOT big gamblers, and this still gave us excellent discounts. Now that I have it, I may make another trip this year if we can convince Grammy to do another overnight.
