We have stayed at the RIO several times over the years but it had been 5+ years since we stayed there. We always loved the clean over sized rooms at amazing prices, the show in the sky was a family favorite. The first shocker came when booking the room, the rooms were at an advertised price and everything was great until suddenly the resort fees were added, it doubled the price! The front desk wait is long, there are express check in check out machines but everyone we saw use them ended up back in line because it didn't work. They seem to be the only hotel casino we went into that allows people to smoke wherever they want which made it bad, other casinos we visited seem to have designated areas for smokers. When we have stayed in the past, once in a two room suite several visits in a regular suite we have always been placed in the Ipanema tower, this time we were put in the Masquerade tower, My husband daughter and I were in a two queens suite and my daughter and her husband a king bed suite. Both rooms sorely needed updating and while not visibly dirty had an overall feel of neglect. Judging by pictures I have seen the Rio post of the suites in the Masquerade tower we were missing a lot of pieces of furniture that no one had bothered to replace. The beds were small didn't feel like queen size at all and were not comfortable, the pillows were bad also and I know it's an older casino but our room was so noisy, we were on the 14th floor but the street noise wasn't blocked at all and every time the air conditioning kicked on it made a big clunking noise. Whenever a sink was ran or the shower the other two would gurgle like the water was going to come up in them. There is not a fan in the bathroom either to clear away smells or steam and the disturbing peek through window was still present just in case one of us wanted to watch the other one shower. A huge disappointment was I guess because of the two Starbucks downstairs they had taken the coffee makers out of the rooms. the panels where they had been by the counter were still ripped open. They also only allow you to connect two devices to their abysmal internet, if you go over 2 devices you have to pay another $15 a day. The second day there it stopped letting us log in at all though. It feels like this casino has gotten a little older and they are letting it die.
