I come up from San Diego every January to ski, and always stay at Harrah’s. The staff is great, the rooms are clean and roomy, and the food at the Forest Buffet, the food court (this year I finally found out how good the Thai food is), and the American Rivers restaurant are all excellent. I enjoy playing slots, and the variety of machines, and the introduction every year of new and fun machines, kept me entertained on the days that I couldn’t ski (while I was at Harrah’s it snowed relentlessly, and the shuttle that takes guests to my favorite resort, Sierra at Tahoe, was unable to run some days because Hwy. 50 was closed). I made good use of the exercise facilities each day that I was unable to ski, and the equipment is somewhat limited but still adequate to get a good workout. The tv in the exercise room didn’t work during the most heavy snow; I assume that snow was accumulating on the satellite dish. But when it came back, there were remarkably more channels available. I watch a lot of news, and CNN, MSNBC, and Fox were all available both in my room and in the exercise room, once the satellite came back up. I also spent a lot of time at Harvey’s across the street. Conveniently, there’s a tunnel that connects the two hotels, so I didn’t have to bundle up to cross the street. Because both hotels and casinos are Caesar properties, I was able to accumulate rewards and redeem them at both locations. I especially enjoyed eating at Straw Hat at Harvey’s, where I ate from the extensive salad bar, a real bargain. At both resorts I played Roulette, really the only table game I play, and the dealers are sociable and friendly, and I feel like they treated me like family. Cocktail service was also excellent, with very friendly workers. I made sure to tip them well. I left a good tip for the housekeeping staff, too. Although I only got to ski 5 days out of my 12-day vacation, the fact that I planned my stay to occur at Harrah’s made every day enjoyable. I’ll be back next January and every year (this was my fourth annual stay at Harrah’s), and I know I’ll have another great vacation.
