While we’ve heard the term “tokes” for tips for some time, we never actually thought about why that term might be used.

'Tokes" Is Short For 'Tokens Of Appreciation'.

Of course, given that’s the case, “toking” someone isn’t exactly proper grammar (better than “tokening,” however), but proper grammar isn’t what lubricates the gears. Tokes are. So, toke generously when you’re in Vegas. And everywhere else, come to think of it.
